The group began in 1910, when Kaspar Winkler invented Sika-1, a fast-acting waterproofing admixture for mortar used in the Gotthard tunnel. Today it has subsidiaries in 103 countries and more than 400 factories; in 2022, around 33,000 employees generated sales of CHF 10.5 billion.
In Portugal, its reference projects include the roof rehabilitation of the Super Bock Arena, the former Pavilhão Rosa Mota in Porto, the waterproofing and rehabilitation of the lakes in the gardens of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and the structural strengthening of columns and beams in an education and services building in Porto, with EMOHS.
