About the company
The Palace of the Counts of Anadia, in Mangualde, is “a magnificent example of 18th-century Portuguese Baroque” and one of the most important examples of 18th-century manor-house architecture in Portugal. The architectural ensemble is classified as a Property of Public Interest.
In the first quarter of the 18th century, Simão Paes do Amaral had the family's old house rebuilt; the works continued under his son, Miguel Pais do Amaral, and were only completed in the time of Simão Paes do Amaral Quifel Barberino. The house became known as the Anadia Palace after Manuel Pais do Amaral Quifel Barberino married the 3rd Countess of Anadia. Marshal Massena and King Luís I, who visited it in 1882 for the opening of the Beira Alta railway, both passed through it.
It lies in the Dão demarcated wine region and produces wines from the region's typical grape varieties, such as the white Encruzado and the reds Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Jaen. It is open every day, with guided visits to the palace and gardens and wine tastings in the house's old wine cellar.
